One Facebook’s major draws is its photo-viewing and sharing capabilities and yesterday Facebook started rolling out its updated version of their Photo App. Facebook knows that its photo sharing aspects is one of its most popular attributes, so with the recent developments of Google + and Picasa it is logical that Facebook would release a more updated version of its photo interface. Not too much has changed, but the few changes that have been made are significant; if you don’t see these changes on your own personal profile or business page don’t worry – the changes will come to your profile eventually.
The biggest and most noticeable difference is the larger size of all the photographs. The photos can now be a whopping 960 pixels in size – quite a difference from the old standard of 720 pixels. Assuming your internet connection works reasonably well, you will also notice that pictures upload much quicker too. The qualities of the images are also improved and even pictures that have been uploaded in the past will now be displayed at a much higher resolution.
The old photo interface – the one that was framed by a black box – has been discarded. The photos will now be displayed against a faded white backdrop (more properly called a ‘lightbox’) which in theory draws more attention to the photograph. The one drawback to this new aesthetic, however, is that the arrow buttons to flip through the pictures are initially somewhat hard to find. They flank the photograph on the right and left side but they seem to fade and blend into the background.
Although this is not a major problem it will be interesting to see if Facebook makes any changes to the location or prominence of the arrow buttons and to the “x”/ “close” button (to ‘x’ out of the photograph, you have to either click somewhere else on the screen OR click the ‘x’ button specifically which is now located at the very top right corner of the screen). The “Like” and “Comment” button, featured on the lower left portion of the lightbox, is very intuitive and compliments the aesthetic quite nicely.
It will also be very interesting to see what Facebook does to this Photo app next – possibly some very basic photo modification capabilities built into the app and interface, perhaps? Who knows – maybe the ability to upload a picture to facebook and then desaturate that image to make it appear black & white (or do other very basic alterations) is not too far off in the distant future!

Have you ever noticed that Twitter doesn’t have a feature that allows you to easily backup your followers? Twitter may develop such a function eventually, but in the meantime, there is Tweetake to fill that void.
Just think of it: you have spent hours/days/years cultivating your twitter following and follower lists, so presumably everyone on these lists offers something of value to you. Now what would happen if these lists just disappeared (as it did last summer for many people)? Or what would happen if you changed your Twittername and wanted to refollow the same people of your old account? Do you think you could find everyone again in order to follow them once more? Probably not…and if so, it would certainly be incredibly time-consuming. Tweetake enables you to keep records of who you are following and who is following you so that you can go back and follow / request that they follow you again. You simply use your twitter name and password so that the Tweetake can utilize Twitter’s API to run effectively.
There are some limitations to Tweetake, but this probably won’t have a detrimental effect for most people. For instance, these are the current limits on the different types of records you can back up in one go:
*Up to 10,000 followers’ tweets
*Up to 1,000 favorites (but Twitter for whatever unknown reason may curb this to 200)
*Up to 10,000 friends’ tweets
*Up to 3,200 tweets
*Up to 1,000 direct messages
The creators of Tweetake suggest that it’s best to back up each category (followers, following, tweets etc) separately. And then make a note to back up every week, month, etc.
It’s a free service, but if you really like it, you can donate to the cause. If you’re one of those people who like to have a safety net (and it’s a good idea if you do a lot of socializing or business on twitter), this is a perfect FREE service for you!
Twitter revealed it’s very own “Follow” button at the beginning of the summer, and it’s becoming more ubiquitous throughout the internet. Perhaps you have seen it already:
Twitter’s Follow button acts very similarly to Facebook’s “Like” button. Assuming you already have a twitter account, when you click the Twitter Follow button that company/website/person/brand etc. will automatically be added to your twitter stream.
Enter the applicable information, and twitter will develop an HTML code for you to copy and paste onto your website. Voila! Your Twitter button is now ready to direct traffic to your twitter feed!
Micro Niche Finder automatically retrieves 100 search results. It’s easy to increase this amount, but you need an AdWords account to do this. Assuming you have one, this is how you change the settings.
1.) On the Micro Niche Finder home screen, click on the link that says “Programs and Settings”. A screen will automatically appear. Click on the tab that says “AdWords Login Settings”
2.) Select the box labeled “Login to Adwords when searching” and enter your Adwords account information to retrieve up to 800 results per search instead of the default 100 results.
We recommend setting the number of results to retrieve to be 300 or less; although 800 is the maximum available if you opt for more than 300 it may negatively affect Micro Niche Finder’s performance.
That’s it! A pretty simple way to customize your Micro Niche Finder to your demands.
