This Wednesday (September 28th ) at 7:00 pm EDT, Remember back in the days before Panda (a huge Google update) when you could do some SEO and it would just work? Google sent out that update and for a lot of people it was like their rankings crashed overnight

For some people, some of those SEO tricks traditionally used just don’t seem to pull its weight any more…

But what about all those websites that didn’t get knocked back, or even got better?  What did they do different? There’s one guy who knows the answer, and he’s our special guest tomorrow night!

This guy’s websites didn’t get touched because he knew the First SEO Commandment (you will learn it tomorrow night too). It works so well he is nonplussed by Google’s new Panda approach…and after tomorrow’s webinar, you’ll be more confident able to navigate these new waters too.

Want to find out what he knows that no-one else does? You have to come to tomorrow’s FREE webinar to see all of this for yourself…

The essential details are as follows:

Google Wallet

Ooooh, tomorrow could be quite exciting, folks! The internet is all aflutter with talk of Google releasing its “Google Wallet” app tomorrow…you may remember hearing about this product after Google released a funny Sienfeld-esque video advertising this upcoming app a few months ago.  Google Wallet is a free app that basically turns your smartphone into a wallet, allowing you to pay for goods and services directly from your phone. Google is hoping that this form of payment will become as ubiquitous as credit and debit cards…time will tell if this happens or not!

Google announced that this product was in the works earlier this year, and they tentatively stated that it would be released sometime in the summer of 2011. There is a big conference in France tomorrow which Mastercard – the company that is partnered with Google on this endeavor – is headlining and rumor has it that Mastercard will reveal the finished Google Wallet app tomorrow. This is entirely plausible…especially when copies of an internally circulated official Mastercard email stating that tomorrow is the release day has (unsurprisingly) hit the internet.

Although the concept is different (and either really cool or really terrifying, depending on your point of view) it will be especially interesting to see how Google and Mastercard explain in greater detail how Google Wallet will actually work.  It seems that it will be possible to just hold your phone up to the debit/credit keypad and Google Wallet will automatically and instantly pay for the item (very similar to the existing Paypass system that exists now), so the right merchant infrastructure needs to be established in more stores across the country and world (see where it will work in your neighborhood here). Until this happens, Google Wallet is going to be very limited in its application. Google has not revealed if this app will also work with other credit cards (such as Visa or American Express) so this could also be a limiting Google Wallet’s use too.

Security issues definitely need to be addressed – if your phone is stolen, would the thief have automatic access to your credit account and be able to use your phone to rack up humungous charges? How easy would it be to remotely hack Google Wallet? Details have been kept secret, but in order for Google Wallet to become popular, the public needs to be reassured of the security features so expect thorough security explanations to be given very soon.

This Google Wallet will only be available on the Nexus S4 G by Sprint initially, although the next generation of Androids will have this technology already built into the phone (and Google’s next Android, the Nexus Prime, will be out in the upcoming months) so the ability to use Google Wallet will be extended to all Verizon customers soon.

It will be so interesting to have more details tomorrow, and to see this app in action…but what are your thoughts? Do you have any misgivings about this new way of paying for tangible goods and services? Or are you excited about this new technological development?

With Google Insights for Search, you can show higher track down volume patterns across actual regions, kinds, time frames and properties.

Insights can be adapted to determine seasonality. For case, a ski resort may want to find out when people search for ski-related terms most often.

The results are fairly consistent throughout the years: interest picks up in August and peaks in December and January. With this information, the ski resort can Read the rest of this entry

Free Online Converter

We recently became aware of a website that might be very useful to many of you.  It’s called Online Convert and it’s completely free. The service is pretty fast and you don’t need to download any software to use it…pretty cool!

There are several different converters on this website to use; it all depends on what kind of file your original source material is and what file you wish to convert it to. There is an audio converter, video converter, image converter, document converter, ebook converter, archive converter, and a hash generator.

For example, say you have a .jpeg image that you want to convert to a .tga format Simply go to the image converter tab, chose the “Convert to TGA” option (there are many options to choose from) and you will come to a screen that looks like this:

Choose the image you want to convert, fill in any necessary fields (such as image size, if you wish to change it) and click the “convert file”.  You will see an update box appear:

Once your file is converted, your new converted image (or document, or video, etc.) should be available to open right away. You can also opt to have it emailed to you if that’s more convenient.

In all of our testing so far this website has proven to be pretty nifty. Try it out for yourself – it’s a very easy way to convert all sorts of files!

Goodbye Google Labs

Google announced this summer that it would be closing down its famous “Google Labs” – indeed it is in the winding down process now, and all signs point to Google Labs being completely gone by October. Google likened it’s Google Labs to a “playground” where innovative products and services could be tested out by the public at large; some of Google’s most famous products came from here – including Gmail, Reader, Maps, etc. – but the majority of products and services here were experimental and slightly unstable. Nonetheless, it was a fun place to tinker around and it was an interesting way to get a glimpse into the psyche of Google. For curious web users all around the globe it’s a bit sad to see this very visible platform for innovation go away.

Why would Google do this, you ask? Well at the end of the day Google Labs was a place where a lot of nonessential products were developed. They were interesting, yes, but from a more pragmatic viewpoint Google Labs grew to be a big and unwieldy place that was diverting developer’s attention from Google’s necessary business goals.  By abolishing Google Labs, Google is now able to more effectively give energy and attention to a select few goals.

Google is controlling itself. It’s reeling itself back a bit, which though at first may seem counterproductive it is actually a strategy that allows it to really excel in its chosen products and fields. For over a decade Google has been expanding, expanding, expanding, and although it will continue to grow as a company it will now do so with carefully selected products and services. It’s a different strategy, but then again, it’s under different leadership now so this is all part of the Google revamping process.

Some of the products currently listed on Google Labs will disappear forever, but other products will be integrated into other existing products. It is not certain which ones will disappear and which ones will be absorbed into other more successful products, but Google did mention that it’s site-specific Labs will remain intact (ex: Gmail Labs, Google Maps Labs, etc.). Since these specific labs will be left alone, it’s safe to assume that any products currently listed in Google Labs that correlate with a Site-specific Lab will probably just move to that site-specific location.

For example, Places Directory (which is currently featured on Google Labs) has features that have been transferred over to Google Maps for Mobile.  Google Shopper, which was once available on Google Labs, is now available on the Android Market, and Google Books Ngram viewer will be incorporated into Google Books…and so forth. Realtime Mytracks, Google Breadcrumb, and other products have already been shut down permanently.

Everything must change and everything does come to an end, and while it’s bittersweet to see Google Labs end, it has been fun while it lasted!
