Goodbye 2011

2011 was a busy whirlwind of a year! And you know what? THANK YOU for that!

You. Yes, you. You are awesome. Thank you!

You. Yes, you. You are awesome. Thank you!

Amongst other things, we had a plethora of  free webinars this past year. You are more than welcome to check them out (but the bonuses generally aren’t still available) as they are very useful for all internet marketers.  You can also check out the many videos we have put on our youtube channel – they’re really informative and we get feedback all the time about how useful they are. By looking through our webinar archives and youtube channel, you’ll find lots of information and strategies that were not only relevant in 2011 but will also be effective in 2012 too!

Thanks for a great 2011…now let’s all make 2012 an even better year!

Fun Infographic: “Target Practice”

Found this cool little infographic on the internet and thought it’d be useful to share. Monetate recently presented this infographic as a way to show that not everyone who visits your website is the same so the way you target them need not be the same either…in fact, by tailoring your approach, it’s entirely possible to see an increase in activity and sales.

Simply put, all viewers are not the same. Traffic comes from many sources and people have different preferences and sometimes needs different incentives and/or persuasions to buy a product (or join your list, follow your blog, etc.).For instance, some people will come to your websites via their cell phones, others will use their new tablets, some of the traffic will be comprised of returning visitors while other visitors will be new, some of your visitors will be in other countries, etc. These are all significant differences, so presenting the same targeting techniques without accounting for these differences can be affecting your bottom line.

The following infographic uses information from a fictional (but probably average) website to show that there are many creative and effective ways to generate leads and revenue from visitors to your website(s). It’s interesting, but what are your thoughts? Have you used specific techniques (such as geotargeting or technographic targeting) in your business?

TwitWipe – Delete Your Tweets

It’s easy to forget this follow tidbit, but every single tweet on Twitter is retrievable. Actually, the Library of Congress is even trying to archive all tweets!  Yup, if you had a lot of time and felt like looking through twitter users past tweets, you would quickly realize that all tweets – the good, the bad, the boring – can be found. It’s time consuming, but it can be easily done.

This might pose problems for those that want to clean up their tweets.

However, there’s a new service out called “TwitWipe”. It promises to delete all of your tweets, but keep your followers, the list of people you are following, and your favorite tweets. It basically gives you a new clean twitter slate.

You can go check out TwitWipe’s info page (but FYI, it is filled with adult language). TwitWipe is increasingly popular because people are becoming more and more aware that their online persona has offline consequences .

To use this service, you must click the “Sign in with Twitter” button on the top right section of the page:

After that, you’ll see a “TwitWipe this account” button and a confirmation and disclaimer. Click the buttons to allow the process to continue. Don’t expect your tweets to be gone instantly. It’s not a fast process to delete all of your tweets… in fact, the creators recommend letting the service run overnight in order to get a clean slate! And don’t worry about possible hacking potential –  TwitWipe uses oAuth, so you are not giving out your password to TwitWipe. It’s a free service, but if you’re really happy with the service you are welcome to submit a donation.

Tweets that have already been archived by the Library of Congress obviously can’t be undone by TwitWipe. However, if you need a visually clean slate for your twitter account, TwitWipe is a possible free solution for you!

Facebook Explains How it Makes Money

You might have noticed that Facebook has eliminated its normal ads today – that’s not a coincidence. This one day reprieve from ads is so that you (hopefully) click on the link Facebook suggests near the top of your newsfeed; when you click on this link Facebook explains how it generates revenue.

This may seem elementary to some of you, but it’s important to clarify that Facebook generates its revenue from advertising. Facebook says that it costs over one billion dollars a year to maintain the site, and to keep it free for everyone Facebook allows businesses and people to buy advertising space.

Facebook doesn’t have the best track record concerning user privacy, so it’s rather disarming (and dare I say, nice?) to see Facebook be transparent and candidly lay out the facts about everything that deals with Facebook advertising.

Of course, the cynic within me says this was released to buffer any advertising changes that might be coming in 2012 (such as more sponsored stories), but only time will determine if this is true.

This article explains more about Facebook Ads and how Facebook makes money… and it  also includes a video and a helpful FAQ for Facebook users, so check it out!

Facebook Fan Page Eye-Tracking

We stumbled across this interesting article the other day and thought it was important enough to share with all of you.

This article is especially interesting if you have a Facebook Fan Page. Granted, only 30 participants were used in the study (it would be interesting to see if these results held up in a larger pool of participants) but the finds were quite fascinating nonetheless.

Some of these discoveries are not that surprising – from personal experience, our articles that are accompanied with pictures tend to receive much more attention than those that don’t have a picture (this is consistent with the findings); other results, such as people not noticing the main profile picture, was a bit surprising. The “fixation” time period is incredibly and surprisingly short, so it’s important to make an impact right away!

There’s more discoveries discussed in the article. Check it out and let us know what you think!
