We have received a lot of feedback about our posts about the Facebook Like Button – if you need to acquaint yourself, read why you should make your page more Facebook friendly, and then read how to make a Like button for your page.

Reading is a great way to learn but sometimes watching a video is a better way to fully grasp the information. Below is a video we made that’s all about Facebook Like buttons:

As you can see, it’s not a difficult process and the Like buttons are becoming increasingly prevalent and important to social media optimization.

We’ll keep putting new videos on our YouTube channel, so be sure to check it regularly!

YouTube - The Net Result's Channel

You probably already know what YouTube is (if not, welcome to the internet!) but you may not know the benefits YouTube videos provide for your internet marketing endeavors. There are plenty of other video services but YouTube is free, intuitive to use, immensely popular, and ranks highly on Google search results.

You don’t need to be a professional to make a quality YouTube video. A short and witty video describing your product or website can go a long way; a video that is highly engaging (even if it’s unrelated to your product per se) can also attract traffic to your website if you include your website’s url in the video or in the meta data and tags.

YouTube indexes its videos much like Google, so the concepts of SEO for Google apply to YouTube as well. In short, this means your video should have: a good title (with great keywords), a thorough description that utilizes relevant keywords, and fill in all of the meta data and tags accurately. Filling in all of these fields are very important: when the Google bots are crawling all over your website, they will not see the video but they will see the text you use to describe your video. Use this to your advantage by using highly searched keywords that will increase your page rank!

Once you make a video and post it onto YouTube, let the world know about it! For example, write about the video on your blog – either by writing a blog post about how you made the video or by merely including the link to the video. You can also include the video’s link in your emails, make a posting on Facebook and twitter about it, and submit it to social bookmarking sites. Another great way to increase your video’s popularity is to make even more videos and linking newer videos to older videos and your website!

There is, of course, the chance that your video becomes wildly popular on YouTube (David After Dentist, anyone? Surely you know Keyboard Cat? Or how about the recently spotted Double Rainbow?) This scenario also presents a unique opportunity to make money. Not only will your video drive traffic to your website or product, but YouTube may invite you into its exclusive partner program, which synchs massively popular videos with related ads and gives a portion of the revenue to the owner of the video. No one is exactly sure what the formula is to get invited into YouTube’s partner program, but the amount page views and the “virality” of the video are certainly factors.

Having said all of this, we now have a YouTube channel with a couple videos (more coming soon). We have noticed that some people who use Micro Niche Finder and/or The Ultimate PLR Article Software have been putting up their own user-created content on YouTube, which we think is great! Many of them even have links to their other videos, their affiliate pages, or their own websites, which are great examples of using YouTube videos to increase sales, traffic, and improve SEO. If you make a YouTube video, feel free to let us know about it! Who knows – it may even get featured on our Facebook fan page or in an email!

Interesting (And Mostly Free) Fonts

I Hate Comic Sans

Creating a successful website is dependent on many things, not the least of which is web design. A well planned, aesthetically pleasing website attracts people surfing the internet, keeps them on your website, and aids in their decision to make a purchase from your website.

We have all encountered brilliant websites that use designs or special fonts to stand apart from the rest. Some websites have fonts so distinctive that people instantly associate that font with the website (the entire cheezburger network instantly comes to mind), and finding your own unique font to help create your brand identity can be an important aspect of finding success with e-businesses. There is a handy website called www.dafont.com (disclaimer: we are NOT an affiliate or associated with them in any capacity – we just like their services) that makes it easy to find the right font for your next project. The best part is that most of the fonts are free, and it’s so simple to use that you don’t need to hire someone to create a special font just for you!

Once you are on the website, there are many categories of fonts for you to peruse. Each font gives a small sample of what it looks like, and to the far right you will see a download button that looks like this:
Dafont Download Button

Click on the “Download” button and save the zip file. Once it has completed downloading, go to the folder where it is saved, double-click on the zip to open it, then click on “Extract all files” to unzip the file.

You will then copy these files and paste them into your fonts folder. For all Windows versions this can be achieved by going to the Start Menu > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Fonts. Copy the files into this folder and you will be able to use them right away.

The way to download a font for Mac computers depends on the operating system:

For Mac OS X 10.3 or above (including the FontBook) , double-click the font file > “Install font” button at the bottom of the preview.

For Under any version of Mac OS X, put the files into /Library/Fonts (for all users),
or into /Users/Your_username/Library/Fonts (for you only).

For Under Mac OS 9 or earlier, you need to do an extra step since the old Mac fonts are not supported anymore at dafont. First, you have to convert the font files (.ttf or .otf) you have downloaded. Then drag the fonts suitcases into the System folder. The system will propose you to add them to the Fonts folder.

As we mentioned earlier, most of the fonts on this website are free. Even though a font may be labeled freeware, shareware, demo versions or public domain, it never hurts to double check. When you download the font file there is usually a readme.txt file (or something to that extent) included in the download, which explicitly states how you can use the font.

Below are a few random fonts that we found to be eyecatching; for example, the “Green Fuz” one in particular would be great to use with a Halloween affiliate website, and Amadeus would be great for music themed websites. Have a look around and see if this website helps to get your creative juices flowing. Each font spells the font name, so you can search these fonts by entering these names into dafont’s search bar.

Drift Type

Samarkan

Dilana Experimentype

Amadeus

Green Fuz

Cupid de Locke

Riven

Honey I Stole Your Jumper
And of course, if you know of another unique font website that is primarily free to use, please share! We love discovering new websites :-)

You already know that Facebook Like Buttons are important to increase your Social Media Optimization, and luckily Facebook has made it pretty simple to add the Like button to your website. Facebook is using its Open Graph strategy to theoretically make all websites more Facebook friendly. To achieve this, Facebook has developed a way for you to add a series of Social-Plugins (which are ultimately widgets) to your website to make it more Facebook interactive.

There are two versions of the Like Button that you can add to your website. The first is called the simple i-frame version. The content inside this i-frame allows Facebook to detect whether the person who clicked on the button is logged into Facebook or not; if the person is logged in this i-frame will appear personalized, if they are not logged in they will be prompted to do so.

The simple i-frame code looks like this:

<iframe src=”The Facebook URL You Are Using” scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0″ allowTransparency=”true” style=”border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:px”></IFRAME>

If you use Facebook’s Like Button creator on their developers website to tweak the parameters and enter your unique URLs, you will have a functioning Like Button in no time. Enter the information and click the “Get Code” blue button, and once your code is generated just add it to your websites!

There is another type of Like Button and the code is a tiny bit more complicated, but it offers more features. It’s the JavaScript version and to use it you need to incorporate JavaScript SDK and Facebook’s XFBML fb:like tag.

The JavaScript code looks like this:

<fb:like href=”Your URL” layout=”standard” show-faces=”true” width=”450″ action=”like” colorscheme=”light” />

Definitely use Facebook’s Like Button creator on their Developers website to adjust your parameters and add your unique URLS.

In addition to the feature of the simple i-frame version, if you use the JavaScript code to make your Like Button, you can show the profile pictures (show-faces=”true”) of your friends who have clicked the Like Button. In addition, people can add a comment to the link once they clicked on it. This is the more interactive version of the Like Button, but both versions work well so choose whichever one is best for you.

In both versions, it is highly recommended that you add meta data codes to the code Facebook generates for you. These Open Graph meta tags make your link look better.

These meta tags include the title of your page, the name of your website, and the URL of the best image for the page (this would be the picture that appears by your link on Facebook).

The example Facebook gives is such:

<meta property=”og:title” content=”The Rock”/>
<meta property=”og:site_name” content=”IMDb”/>
<meta property=”og:image” content=”http://ia.media-imdb.com/rock.jpg”/>

By looking at these additional meta tags, we can infer that the title of the website is “The Rock”, the website is “IMDb.com”, and that there is an image (probably the movie poster) that accompanies it. Change these settings as necessary so that it reflects your website.

Once you have a code, you will run it through the URL Linter to make sure that you did everything correctly. If everything seems fine add the final code to your website and you will be good to go!

Internet marketing is a rapidly evolving field and it always has been an environment where those that become complacent eventually find themselves left in the dust; however, the recent meteoric rise of the internet becoming “socialized” coupled with behavioral patterns based on trusted “personal” recommendations is definitely shaking up traditional search methods.

In blunt terms, the Facebook model of interacting on the internet is colliding with Google’s model of searching on the internet. Google’s method of providing relevant search results depend on a.) Either that you go to Google and search a term; b.) Or you have a Google toolbar and search from there; c.) Once you used Google to search a term, their secretive and constantly changing algorithm determines their search results. For a website to become relevant – and thus appear highly ranked in the search results – it must meet Google’s criteria for what constitutes relevancy. That means a website must fit into Google’s algorithm nicely – for instance, having a good amount of backlinks, proper meta data labeling, fast site speed, the right keywords, the correct amount of keywords to article length, etc. (and this is all just educated guesses, no one knows the magic formula). This has proven to be an effective way to navigate the vast internet, but a lot of high quality websites run the risk of getting left by the wayside (maybe they don’t have enough backlinks, perhaps Google feels they are keyword-stuffing, etc.). Websites ranked on the 5th page of Google Search results, even if they are engaging and well planned, have an extremely difficult time getting to the first page – new websites in particular are all too familiar with this problem.

Now the Facebook model operates a different way: instead of using an algorithm to determine relevancy, it allows YOU to determine relevancy. By sheer virtue of clicking on a Like or Share button, you are effectively telling the world (and Facebook of course) that this webpage meets your standards, interests you, and is relevant not only to you but probably to your social circle as well. Facebook keeps track of this information and uses their algorithm to try and determine other websites that may interest you – which you can then Like or Dislike and in turn affects their tailored algorithm for you. It’s a different way of interacting with the web and it’s catching on like wildfire.

Let’s not kid ourselves – if Google is King, Facebook is definitely trying to become The Great Usurper. Facebook has unleashed a slew of Facebook-centric applications to make the internet more “Facebook-esque” and with almost half a billion users, Facebook is one of the largest, most interactive, and best-funded competitors against Google. Whether or not Facebook will succeed in becoming the premier search website is hard to say right now, but it can be stated with certainty that making your website more Facebook friendly will behoove you in the short-term and (very possibly) the long run.

One of the best ways to make your website more Facebook-friendly is to add a Like button.

Facebook Like Button
This is how Like Buttons work: if you put one of these buttons onto your website, people who visit that website and also use Facebook can click that Like button and Facebook will show your website in that person’s facebook wall for all of their friends to see. If their friends click the link, they will be led to your website. As the original person’s friends arrive on your page, the Like Button becomes personalized for them by displaying which of their friends already like your page. As more people click the Like button on your page, the exposure your page receives grows exponentially. Not only is the opportunity for great exposure, but because a friend “Likes” your website it will be perceived to have greater value because a friend endorses it.

Now that you know WHY you should add a Like button to your website,the next blog post will explain HOW to put a Facebook Like button on your website. :-D

Tomorrow (July 7th) we are hosting a FREE webinar called “Bullet-Proof Affiliate Commisions” with Wilson Mattos. This webinar is important for all affiliate marketers, because Wilson Mattos has created a remarkable software that protects your highly vulnerable affiliate links, precious affiliate commissions (that you earned and some pirate is stealing from you!), has a built in link-cloaker to override repulsive affiliate links, and can even be used to almost create instant products for you to sell. It’s so useful that we use this software every single day. It’s completely legitimate (not one of those “ninja” marketing gimmicks that infuriates Google) and a real “game changer”. It has worked so well for our business, we simply HAD to arrange this webinar to share the good news.

Fret not though – even if you don’t want to purchase the software, Wilson will explain exactly what to do anyway so that you can do it on your own (the software just “does it for you”, which saves time and really is convenient).  Either way, you will know point-by-point what to do AND what not to do.

Among other topics, in this webinar Wilson will discuss:

*The best practices for managing and organizing your affiliate links (it’s great having all affiliate links managed in ONE place).  Wilson will also demonstrate why using “raw” affiliate links is costing you major money – you might as well put your bank account number out in public…because anyone can take a raw link and make it their own (stealing your commissions).

*5 different link cloaking techniques and the “pros and cons” of each – You’ll have a full cafeteria of options the next time you need to protect yourself and cloak your links

*How to organize links and track clicks for your promotions to gain valuable marketing “intel” you’d never get otherwise.

*A white-hat technique to create stealthy redirect links that protect the real URL before and after the user clicks on your link!

*How to leave NO indication of an affiliate link.

And much, MUCH more!
